The 1950's were an important decade for Girard Perregaux. In 1951, they introduced a watch with a revolutionary new winding system that would become famous for its engineering feats, the Gyromatic. Because of its ingenious design and function, the Gyromatic watch became well-known.
Today's offering showcases this Girard Perregaux we have just finished sympathetically restoring. It is mid-sized with an uncommon and very interesting shaped case with bullhorn lugs.
It has self-winding Gyromatic mechanism with very effective power transmission system that requires smaller wrist movement to keep the watch fully powered, intended to insure that the watch spends more time running at peak power level for more accurate timekeeping.
This simple design eliminates key vulnerabilities commonly found in other automatic movements such as couplets, ratchets, and other delicate parts.
Its case is unusually shaped and designed to be waterproof. Despite the inherent difficulties associated with making rectangular cases impermeable, using a high level of craftsmanship and a novel case design that features an inner movement holder and pressure sealing crystal, Girard Perregaux built a waterproof, form shaped case, an unusual feat in the 1950's.
Our restoration included having the dial expertly restored, sourcing a new correct crystal, fully servicing the movement, and for the finishing touch, installing a high quality genuine Alligator strap.
Included with the purchase is a full one-year international warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate.
